Content Description
Barry states that his letter encloses papers providing an account of what had been done for him, by reason of Buchan's intervention, by the
Society for the Encouragement of Arts and by the Dublin Society. He hopes that he may be able to throw off his lassitude at last. However, he needs a place fit for carrying on his work, as the place he was in was no longer habitable. Barry goes on to allude to the grievances he had suffered since 1783. He then attacks the malign effects of "Connoisseurship" in art and transcribes a letter on the subject written by himself, which was printed in the
Monthly Magazine of September 1803.
