He longs to see Samuel; the continual praise of his pictures fills him with pride, but minor things reduce him to despair; chance has prevented his coming to Plymouth; he has improved since coming to Portsmouth and has lots of work, but does not want to impose on Mr. Hunt; he went recently to Porchester Castle, built by Vespasian and a very noble ruin; a captain has offered to take him to Italy free of charge and Mr. Ramsay, a clergyman, will accompany him, and so he asks Samuel's opinion.
