Content Description
Asking Gibson to part company [with 'The Tinted Venus'] so that it could go on public display. Preston says that the statue had been supposed by many persons to be in their possession, because it was known to belong to them, and the rumour from Rome was that Gibson had not released the work, because he felt the Prestons were not worthy owners on grounds of "rank, station in society, or education". Preston then delivers a eulogy of Gibson's statue, and describes the basis of her powers of artistic appreciation.
