Content Description
The members of the New Zealand Apple & Pear Marketing Board wished to commission Middleton Todd to paint a portrait of their chairman, Harry Turner, at a suggested fee of 400 guineas. The approach had been suggested to them by
Humphrey Brooke at the Royal Academy. The letter is accompanied by Middleton Todd's [undated] draft reply, declining the commission, because he had three portraits on hand during the period that Turner was in the country.
