Minutes of meetings of the Council, including the following selected entries: the suggestion of
Sir Robin Darwin that a medical service should be made available for Schools students, 29 January 1974; the concern of
Frederick Gore that the budget for the Turner Exhibition, in particular the cost of installation and dismantling, had not been submitted to the Exhibitions Committee before being placed before Council, 18 June 1974; agreement that the Royal Academy should not contribute to the upkeep of the tombs of deceased members, following a visit by the Secretary,
Sidney Hutchison, to the tomb of
John Constable at Hampstead, London and consideration of further recommendations of the Policy Advisory Committee, including a proposal for an up to date survey of Burlington House, 18 June 1974; and acceptance by the Council of proposals [from the Policy Advisory Committee] to amend the laws so that election of the President should take place on or near 10 December, and that election should be for a term of three years, with eligibility for two further such periods, making a maximum of nine years [the latter proposal was subsequently not confirmed by the General Assembly by the necessary two-thirds majority], 30 July 1974.
