He went to Lucknow counting on Mapherson using his influence to secure payment from Nabob; [as Macpherson has been replaced by Cornwallis] no influence of Government will now be exerted in his favour. He believes, and is supported by legal opinion, that Macpherson owes him compensation. He would prefer to rely on the arbitration of friends, rather than a legal contest.
