These are expenses incurred by
Edward Penny and
Francis Milner Newton, who were sent by the Directors to consult with the Society of Artists' counsel,
Serjeant Whitaker at his home in Hounslow, following moves to restrict the election of Directors by a number of Fellows, led by
Christopher Seton and
William Thompson. Penny and Newton reported to the meeting of Directors on 14 October [SA/10] that they had failed to meet Whitaker because he was out of town in Chertsey. The two then posted to Chertsey the following day, ahead of the general meeting that evening, at which Whitaker's opinion in support of the Directors was delivered.
Bill for chaise to Hounslow and to Chertsey and related expenses. Amount £1 12s 4d. Note: "Went by order of the Directors The V.P. & Secy."
