Historical Background
An agreement had been signed with Mr Moreing of Maiden Lane for the use of his room for the Society of Artists' academy at an annual rent of £55 [minutes of Directors' meeting, 5 October 1769, SA/10]. At the Directors' meeting of 14 February 1770 [SA/10], a resolution was passed that, "as the Society continues to be greatly incommoded by being denied admittance through the passage from Maiden Lane, a Bill in Chancery be immediately filed against Messrs Moreing and Cumming and that this resolution be reported to the Society at the next general meeting."
Content Description
Asking [Moreing] to attend a Directors' meeting on Wednesday next at 8 o'clock, in order arrange that the Society of Artists should suffer no further interruption in their right to a free passage through the shop in Maiden Lane.
