Alfred Gilbert. Bruges, to Spielmann
The [Academicians] are gathered at Burlington House to discuss
Macbeth's retirement and Gilbert's "ejectment". He has saved them the trouble, however, having tendered his resignation. He is now freelance and glories in his freedom, listing vested interests in the art world over which he will watch. He has changed his practice as an artist, "adopting the painter's mode of expression". He is nauseated by specialisation in Art.
