ZRoyal Academy Illustrated 2009

02070384

The Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition has been an annual event since 1769. Today, around 1,000 works are selected each year from about 10,000 entries, making it the largest open exhibition in the United Kingdom.
First published in the 1870's, the Royal Academy Illustrated presents the highlights of each year's show and is a fascinating barometer of changing artistic tastes. The extensive range of illustrations, chosen this year by Eileen Cooper RA, includes a wide cross-section of the works on display, and a number of installation shots of the galleries. With an introduction by Richard Cork, who outlines the exhibition's major themes, these elements make the Royal Academy Illustrated a handsome and informative record of this most popular event.
