John Frederick Lewis (1804 – 1876) is best known for his glittering scenes of oriental life inspired by a decade living in Cairo. As a young artist in London, however, Lewis showed great promise as a painter and draughtsman of animals. His work was on a par with that of his childhood friend Edwin Landseer, who was to become the foremost animal painter of the Victorian age.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[With its first charter granted in 1364, the Vintners are one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies and have a long involvement in the importation, regulation and sale of wine. We tour the private rooms of Vintners’ Hall and view the wonderful collection of silver, enamel and porcelain wine labels as well as fine panelling, furniture and historic portraits.       <title>Maya Roos - Art - 1 Nov 2008-19 Jan 2009</title>
      <description><![CDATA[Since 1999 Maya Roos has utilised a Norton computer programme for her large-scale murals and paintings on canvas. She bases her works upon the Norton Speed Disc, a device used to clean up a computer programme and optimise the computer’s hard drive. During this process the programme visualises each phase of the hard drive in coloured stripes. Roos downloads an image of the stripes on the monitor and uses it as the basis for her painting.]]></description>
