Painters/Printers

Norman Ackroyd’s etchings from his recent travels off Scotland’s north coast are on show in ‘Beyond Cape Wrath & Shetland’ at the North House Gallery, Manningtree (26 Jan–23 Feb, 2013). He shows work with Ian Ritchie at the Zillah Bell Gallery in Thirsk, North Yorkshire (23 Nov–6 Jan, 2013) and with Chris Orr in ‘Academicians II’, at Glasgow Print Studio (until 2 Dec)

Gillian Ayres shows new paintings and works on paper at Alan Cristea Gallery, London (16 Nov–22 Dec), and her show ‘Paintings from the ’50s’ is at the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings (until 25 Nov)

Frank Bowling's work is on display in ‘Drop, Roll, Slide, Drip: Frank Bowling’s Poured Paintings 1973-78’, at Tate Britain, London (until 10 March, 2013). He also shows in ‘Grit to Gold: Bowling, Bunker, O’Rourke’ at the Standpoint Gallery, London (18 Jan–16 Feb, 2013)

Grayson Perry is designing a house to be built in Essex in a scheme run by Living Architecture, which commissions top artists and architects to design houses that the public can stay in

Anthony Caro shows ‘Caro: Close Up’ at the Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut, US (until 30 Dec) and ‘Anthony Caro House Series’ at Galeria Altair, Mallorca, Spain (until 14 Dec). He also has a solo show at Galería Álvaro Alcázar, Madrid, Spain (10 Jan–23 Feb, 2013) and participates in ‘Anthony Caro and Jules Olitski: Masters of Abstraction Draw the Figure’ at FreedmanArt, New York (until 2 Feb, 2013)

Architects

Zaha Hadid Architects’ Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, the new art museum of Michigan State University, has opened, as well as the Pierres Vives Building in Montpellier, which holds the library, public archive and sports department of the Herault regional government

Norman Foster’s firm has won the competition for a new office tower at 425 Park Avenue, New York

Nicholas Grimshaw’s practice is working on a commercial scheme above the London Crossrail Station at Paddington, which will include a new entrance to the underground and mainline stations, new public lift and stairs between the Grand Union Canal and Bishop’s Bridge

Alan Stanton’s firm Stanton Williams have won this year’s prestigious Stirling Prize for the Sainsbury Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, which was presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Artifice has published The Sainsbury Laboratory: Science, Architecture, Art (£19.95)

Chris Wilkinson's firm Wilkinson Eyre has completed ‘The Crystal’ at Royal Victoria Dock, London, close to the Emirates Air Line cable car, also their design. The Crystal will house the world’s largest exhibition on the future of cities.
