Name: Laura Collins
School: Lytchett Minster School
Town: Poole
County: Dorset
Year: Year 12
Inspiration: My A-Level studies have introduced me to new artists such as Francis Bacon, David Bomberg, Frank Auerbach and Egon Schiele. I felt inspired by the expressive strokes and rawness of each of their works and the emotional impact that they have on the viewer. I have discovered that I enjoy exploring similar techniques that these artists use and I currently feel motivated by portraiture and the human structure. Even from a young age, I have always felt the need to be able to express myself through art and my style of work has shown itself to be methodical and regimented; although, I have maintained a variety of disciplines within my work. Being exposed to these artists has given me the opportunity to explore the same freedom they portray in their work.
Title: Cheerio Dress
Description: This dress was made after creating a series of other dresses/clothing made out of unusual materials. I discovered that there had already been items of clothing that had been made out of various kinds of foods and decided to investigate using a food that had not been used like this before. I had thought of using Polo mints and Hula-Hoops, however settled on the idea of using the cereal Cheerios to begin making my dress out of.
