Modernism in the Mediterranean

17 Oct 2008

Aimé and Marguerite Maeght enlisted the Catalonian modernist architect Josep Lluís Sert to create a unique ensemble of buildings and outdoor spaces to display their collection on a sparkling hilltop on the Côte d’Azur. J. K. Birksted, author of the book Modernism in the Mediterranean: The Maeght Foundation, explains Sert’s imaginative fusion of modern art and architecture with nature, while the architect Timothy Hatton, who worked with Sert in the 1970s, helps to bring this fascinating character to life.
