Munch's self-portraits constitute a visual auto-biography in which the artist explored his experience of life and his commitment to art. Love, desire, the creative journey, aging and death are the central themes of these works. Munch created 70 self-portraits in oil, over 100 in watercolour, as well as numerous drawings and sketches, many of which were exhibited in this acclaimed exhibition.
