American Associates 2008-09

1 January — 31 December 2008

This winter, the American Associates continue to celebrate their 25th anniversary in support of the Royal Academy of Arts and are happy to announce that former British Ambassador to Washington, Sir David Manning GCMG, CVO, has agreed to join the AARAT Board.

In May, the American Associates held a dinner at the home of Board member Dame Jillian Sackler DBE in the presence of HRH The Earl of Wessex. The dinner was attended by AARAT major donors, Board members, prospects and The Hon. Richard Sharp, Chairman of the Trust and Dr Charles Saumarez Smith, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy. In June, the American Associates travelled to London for a weekend of events including a private tour of the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace, an evening at the National Theatre and an exclusive dinner at The Sir John Soane's Museum.

In the New Year, the American Associates are working on the RA's Capital Campaign, doing major membership recruitment while they continue to host private art collection visits and private organised curator-led tours of museum exhibitions in and around New York City. The week of 22 June 2009, the American Associates are having their annual trip to London with visits to several well-known estates, private art collections and the theatre.
