Volunteering Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Membership Affairs, Secretary & Chief Executive Office
Up to 6 months, 2 days per week (unpaid)

Responsible for all matters pertaining to the Royal Academicians (the Members), the Head of Membership Affairs acts as the point of contact for all Member enquiries and leads on the preparation and organisation of (monthly) Council and (quarterly) General Assembly meetings. In addition, the Head of Membership Affairs contributes to the administration of the governance structure in accordance with the Royal Academy Laws.

Due to the high volume of administrative work that accompanies regular Council meetings and other Membership activities, a volunteering opportunity has arisen to provide assistance to the Head of Membership Affairs.

The Volunteer will provide varied administrative support to the Head of Membership Affairs which will include mail merge of letters to Academicians, collation and circulation of minutes and papers, research and coordination of information for the bi-monthly newsletter, research and preparation of artist biographies and the coordination of the Nomination Books for elections.

The Volunteer will also provide support for specific project work, for example the coordination of individual diploma certificates for Members signed by The Queen, a portfolio for The Queen for the Diamond Jubilee and Royal Academy Dining Club and Memorial events.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will be able to demonstrate first class communication and people skills (diplomatic, tactful, discrete, friendly and articulate) along with razor sharp attention to detail and a high standard of written English. You will be fully IT literate with exceptionally strong MS Office skills, in particular Word and Excel.

The volunteering opportunity will last for up to 6 months (2 days each week) and will offer the individual a fascinating insight into the governance of the Royal Academy and the Membership.

This is an unpaid opportunity, although travel costs of up to £10 per day will be reimbursed.
